What is Domestic Violence Law?

Domestic violence, also called family violence, is behaviour between people who share a family or intimate personal relationship, that is used to control, threaten or dominate through fear. Domestic violence includes:

  • Physical violence (such as grabbing, pushing or hitting a person).
  • Financial abuse (such as controlling someone’s money).
  • Emotional abuse (such as preventing someone from seeing family or friends, or threats of violence).
  • Sexual abuse.
