Bill Brown

Bill Brown is the Principal Solicitor at Skinner Robertson McCaully. With over 25 years’ experience, he provides high-quality legal representation in criminal and related matters across all Australian jurisdictions, with a primary focus on New South Wales.

He has acted in both complex and non-complex summary matters, as well as in strictly indictable offences. Bill has appeared in all Australian Courts, Tribunals, and Commissions, including the High Court of Australia. His experience spans everything from single-hearing local court matters to long-running, multi-accused trials.

Throughout his career, Bill has maintained a longstanding commitment to criminal law. He has practised exclusively in this field and has held senior roles on both sides of the courtroom. He began as a Senior Solicitor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and later served as Principal Solicitor at the Aboriginal Legal Service in Darwin.

Bill's experience in both prosecutorial and defence work gives him a well-rounded understanding of the criminal justice system. He draws on this background to prepare effective, considered defence strategies tailored to the strengths and weaknesses of each case. His work is guided by strategic insight, careful preparation, and a deep respect for the individual circumstances of every client.

He is known for his culturally sensitive approach and his ability to communicate clearly and persuasively at every stage of a matter. He also collaborates regularly with an established network of senior barristers to ensure clients receive the highest standard of advocacy.

Outside his practice, Bill lectures in criminal law at several Australian universities and contributes to legal journals and specialist publications.
